McBride Honors Program

The McBride Honors Program is one the oldest honors programs in the country. This innovative program provides Mines students with a well-rounded education that prepares them to become leaders in their fields. With a creative interdisciplinary approach, McBride students learn how to link science, engineering and liberal arts, which promotes flexible thinking, creative problem-solving and effective leadership. McBride Honors students graduate from Mines with the skills needed to solve some of the world’s most pressing social and technical problems.

The McBride program facilitates real-world experiential learning for each of our students through a self-guided independent study. The emphasis placed on international engagement, cultural immersion, research, and public policy allows our students to become leaders and trailblazers. For instance, some of our students have:

  • Developed a social media platform for a human rights group in South Africa

  • Designed air quality monitoring systems in Spain

  • Worked on geothermal systems design for the Navajo Nation

  • Launched a nonprofit to build public restrooms in rural Nepal

  • Worked on STEM education policy at the Department of Education

These are just a few of the countless ways McBride Honors students are changing the world. Your gift today, regardless of the amount, will continue to develop the many programs and activities that have a direct impact on these future leaders.

  • $25 can provide a book award for students in Honors classes who demonstrate financial need.

  • $100 can help a student register for an Honors conference to present his or her work.

  • $200 will provide a one-day stipend for a student participating in a summer internship.

  • $250 can provide seed money for a student research or innovation project.

  • $500 can help bring a distinguished lecturer to campus.

Additional funding from the bonus gifts will help the McBride program launch a new leadership development program to integrate more professional, communication, and leadership skills into our Honors offerings!
