Society of Women Engineers

The Mines chapter of Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is the largest section in the nation, with more than 800 members this year, accounting for nearly half of the women at Mines.

SWE provides personal and professional development, networking events and outreach opportunities for our members. The strategic plan at Mines, along with the Engineering Deans diversity pledge, emphasize a push for more diversity in STEM. This is an opportune time for SWE to take its place within these initiatives.

No matter the size of your gift, you will help make a lasting impact on women at Mines and in the community:

  • $10 could give one SWE officer the opportunity to attend Evening With Industry, our largest networking event.

  • $30 would support one high school girl's registration for Girls Lead the Way

  • $50 can fund a Collegiate to Career SWE membership for one new Mines student (to be raffled off at our Welcome Back BBQ in August).

  • $100 may buy the supplies needed for girls to make lava lamps at our Girl Scout Engineering Day.

  • Four gifts of $250 could fund a one-year scholarship for a deserving SWE member.

With funding from the challenge and bonus gifts, we will be able to reach more of the women at Mines - and beyond - with our programming. At a time when admissions is working hard to increase the number of women attending Mines, we are a resource for female students. These funds would allow us to provide more hands-on community outreach events at local high schools, scholarships for current and prospective students, and more major-specific networking opportunities for our members.
